A Contemporary Hotel Concept Rooted in Legacy and Community
When DZ Design was appointed to develop the concept for a confidential government hospitality project in the UAE, the brief required both sensitivity and clarity.
This was not simply about designing a hotel. It was about creating a hospitality environment that reflects heritage, service and community values, while still feeling warm and residential.
From the outset, the design direction was guided by three principles: innovation, protection and connection.
The Concept: Inspiring Legacy
The core idea behind the project was titled Inspiring Legacy. The concept draws from institutional heritage and translates it into a contemporary hospitality language.
Rather than creating a formal environment, the goal was to design a hotel that feels approachable and human. Guests should feel comfortable whether they are working, meeting or unwinding.
The design centres around the art of gathering. Spaces flow naturally from reception to lounge, from café to gym, and up to the residential floors. Each zone connects seamlessly, allowing guests to move easily throughout the building.
A feature heritage wall within the reception area anchors the concept. It celebrates legacy through curated visual storytelling, integrated in a refined and modern way.
Lobby Design: Arrival Experience
The ground floor establishes the tone of the project.
The reception desk is clad in rich green marble, introducing depth and character. Timber ceiling panels add warmth overhead, while textured wall finishes soften the architecture. Integrated greenery reinforces a sense of calm.
Lighting was layered carefully to create comfort. Warm recessed lighting and subtle feature lights enhance the welcoming atmosphere.
Adjacent lounge areas are styled in a residential manner, encouraging informal meetings and relaxed interaction.
Public Amenities
The ground floor includes:
- Café and all-day dining
- Gym
- Public facilities
- Lift lobby
The café and dining areas were designed for flexibility. Seating supports both individual use and small group gatherings. The aesthetic remains cohesive, using neutral tones with green accents that subtly reinforce identity.
The gym benefits from natural light and timber finishes, maintaining continuity with the overall concept. Even functional spaces such as public toilets and lift lobbies follow the same material language, ensuring a consistent experience.
Residential Floors
Upper floors accommodate a mix of:
- Studio units
- One-bedroom apartments
- Two-bedroom apartments
Each layout was planned to maximise comfort within efficient footprints.
Rooms include integrated storage, study areas and defined living zones to support longer stays. The material palette combines timber finishes, soft neutral fabrics and subtle green details. Large-scale wall graphics inspired by organic forms introduce character while maintaining calm.
The objective was to create rooms that feel residential rather than transactional. Guests should feel grounded and at ease.
Corridors were softened with warm lighting and textured finishes to avoid repetition and create a more intimate scale.
FF&E Design And Material Strategy
Material selection balanced durability with refinement.
Key elements include:
- Natural timber finishes
- Textured wall surfaces
- Stone and marble accents
- Integrated greenery
- Warm layered lighting
The recurring use of green adds depth while connecting subtly to the project’s identity.
Hotel Design Outcome
This confidential government hospitality project demonstrates DZ Design’s expertise in translating institutional values into contemporary hospitality interiors.
It reflects careful spatial planning, cohesive concept development and attention to materiality across public and residential areas.
Above all, it shows how thoughtful design can create welcoming environments within structured settings, spaces that feel connected, considered and grounded in purpose.
