Surge for Water: DZ Design wins People’s Choice Award for its sustainable design
The Wave, a sustainable outdoor seat, won this year’s People’s Choice Award at the Surge for Water 2021 design competition. We are beyond thrilled to be a winner. It was a tough competition, and we simply want to say a big thank you to everyone who voted for us.
Love That Design wrote the following lines about the winning design: “A truly commendable win as this was the result of two weeks of intense public voting on the Love That Design portal. We were at the edge of our seat as the competition was fierce.”
Our team has taken part in one of Surge’s competitions for the third year in a row. This year’s theme GAIA refers to the interaction between all living organisms and their environments. We wanted to understand how the world is changing and the role humans play in that change. Therfore, we examined all four dimensions of sustainability – social, ecological, economic, and worldview.
“In design, we often get caught up in our day-to-day work. Moreover, being able to apply our expertise to spark difficult conversations about sustainable design is an opportunity we can never turn down,” says Dina Murali, design director at DZ Design.
The ‘Design, Dine, Make a Difference’ gala of Surge provides better ways for the region’s A+D community to engage in a singular purpose . This is for the world to have safe water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions.
Thank you to our amazing design team for bringing such a thoughtful concept to life. Furthermore, a big thank you to Carve for its excellent craftsmanship and for helping us take this idea from concept to reality.
How did “The Wave” seat come to be? We asked our founders Dina and Zain about it.
